Most of Milan’s main attractions are located in the city center making them easy to explore. Not to be missed is the 15th century Santa Maria delle Grazie church where Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper is on display. Once a Dominican convent, the church was bombed in WWII, but the wall where the painting is displayed survived due to some extra protection. Da Vinci’s greatest painting has become even more popular since its feature in the best-selling novel, The Da Vinci Code. Be sure to compare the fashion houses in Milan’s Golden Quad area to those of Paris. In addition to fashion, Paris offers its own world class art and history. Of course there’s the Louvre, but an amazing collection of modern art can be found in the Musee National d’Art Moderne, housed in the Pompidou Center or alternatively head to Montmartre to view emerging artists. Among its many rich historic monuments, the city’s Notre Dame Cathedral was one of the first buildings ever to use flying buttresses in its Gothic design and the Conciergerie fortress once imprisoned famous figures such as Danton and Marie Antoinette. Catch a game of boules at the Arènes de Lutece, once an amphitheater that played host to gladiator fights centuries ago.
