Italy is one of the most popular vacation destinations in Europe, and it isn't hard to think of reasons. The country has at least 20 different regions that have their own unique set of attractions, landscape, food, culture and history for you to sample and explore.
According to UNESCO, two thirds of the world's historical heritage resides in Italy. Many of these ruins lie in vastly different settings - in Italy you can visit amazing beaches, massive glaciers, thundering mountains, and rolling green hills, all in one vacation. And the architecture includes both the historic monuments from the Roman Empire, as well as relatively more modern cathedrals and squares.
Whether you're here to sip the wine and taste the food, or find the divine in any of the amazing cathedrals and buildings, Italy is waiting. Here are a few cities you'll likely find yourself in during the trip.
ROME
Home to many of the most famous Roman relics like the Coliseum or Circus Maximum, Rome is hugely popular and for good reason. Don't miss out on walking the Spanish steps, making a wish in Trevi fountain, or climbing the dome of the Vatican - all amazing landmarks that make Rome so special.
FLORENCE
Alternate your time between wandering Florence's hills and viewpoints, and heading down cobblestone streets filled with local shops and vendors selling freshly made foods and wine from locally-owned fields.
VENICE
There's no place in the world like Venice, which is why you have to go. From the amazing museums, to the fact that somehow life manages to continue on these tiny little islands connected by canals, it is a must see.
MILAN
From Da Vinci's Last Supper, possibly the world's most famous piece of art, and works by Mantegna, Raphael and Titian, Milan is a must see. The city is also Italy's fashion hub and a major business center.
