Travel To Iceland Travel to Iceland is like a trip to another planet - the country is one of the most unique in the world, and even though it is technically in Europe, it couldn't be more different. From a warm, hospitable culture to Iceland's strange natural wonders, it is a must visit.

Reykjavik is the gateway city and the Icelandic capital. Despite being a modern destination, Reykjavik has a very old world vibe. You know you're somewhere different because as you land at the airport, you'll note the barren lava fields in every direction. But in town, you can walk from one attraction to the next without a problem - and Iceland isn't as cold of a place as the name implies. From the city hall to cathedrals and other government buildings, and wonderful museums like the Museum of Photography, your time in the capital will be enjoyable. Fresh fish and seafood, caught that morning, and tax-free shopping are just a few of the other reasons why people travel to Iceland.

If you travel to Iceland, you'll no doubt start your trip from the most populous city, Reykjavik. Reykjavik has everything you would expect a modern city to have, but it also has a spectacular old town charm. As soon as you touch down in Reykjavik you will realize you are not in a typical big city. Near the airport are barren lava fields that welcome you to Iceland. The majority of the sites in the city are all within walking distance, which also makes for a fantastic way to enjoy the surroundings.

But leaving the city and heading into the countryside is where things get interesting. Whether you've designed your own itinerary or are with a guide, no doubt you'll hit an Icelandic pool, one of the popular tourist attractions. These pools are often surrounded by ice, yet the pool itself is warm and heated by magma underneath the island. Otherwise, the landscape defies description. Glaciers that slice their way through fields, waterfalls that plunge from dizzying heights, fjords that take your breath away - Iceland is a place where some of the world's most beautiful outdoors is right there in front of you, without the crowds.

Iceland also has a number of festivals ongoing year-round, so you'll be bound to find one during your visit. Many have a Viking theme, but music and culture also make a regular appearance. Whether it's the unique city life or the unbelievable scenery, Iceland is definitely a great vacation waiting to happen.
