Egypt is one of those countries that are hard to define, even though it is easily identified by its famous icons. As one of the world's oldest countries, history has been layered and layered over the centuries, resulting in a unique mix that you can't get anywhere else, which is why everyone must travel to Egypt at least once in their lifetime.
Cairo is where many visitors start their trip - a city which manages to hold onto their ancient roots while still growing up into a very modern city. The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities has well over a hundred thousand pieces of artifacts on display, and from the city you can easily get to the Nile River valley, one of the world's most famous cruises. Many travel to Egypt just to see some of the remaining sights here that are wonders of the world - the Pyramids of Giza are the only ancient wonder of the world still remaining, though harsh desert sands continue to battle its existence. The Great Sphinx of Giza also stands on guard, watching over travelers as they scratch their heads, wondering what it was all for.
Alexandria is another city that still stands, thousands of years from its beginnings. Unfortunately much of the original city is gone, including its famed piece of architecture, the Lighthouse of Alexandria. One of the world's most sophisticated buildings of its time, today Alexandria is a very modern city.
You can also explore more of ancient Egypt in and around the city of Luxor, where the world's greatest archeological finds have been uncovered. The tombs of Pharaohs, such as Tutankhamun, and the lavish burial chambers of the families continue to baffle scientists. There are also the vast temple complexes and the villages that housed the workers who built them.
Egypt is not all about the past though - you'll find many modern engineering works in Aswan, not to mention the areas of Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada, which have developed reputations as some of the world's best seaside resorts.
No matter what you're looking for, you'll probably find it when you travel to Egypt.
