I need to first start off that this vacation to Egypt was expected to truly be my trip of a lifetime. Not only did I want to be an archeologist when I grew up (now 33), but my Grandfather was stationed here during the war and showed me all of these fantastic pictures of the pyramids and sphinxes. I have never written an online review before , but I need to let others know that unfortunately, this was THE worst trip I have ever been on. This package is not the same as advertised – Don’t do it!! We were not able to get the same flights as advertised. We did not get the appropriate hotels we paid for in our package either. Just so you know, we have traveled all over the world staying in hostels and low budget hotels so this is not an American snob's point of view. We just got engaged so we decided to splurge and spent $6500 including the side travels to Alexandria and Abu Simbel. I can honestly say we were continuously more than unsatisfied with the results. So much we will never go back to Egypt, or use Go-Today again. Our hotel La Passage in Giza (since the one we paid for was somehow already full - even though other people on our trip were staying there and they booked long after us!!) was FILTHY, the shower didn't work, two HARD twin beds with only one holey sheet, the temperature was around 78 in the room, while it’s 110 outside, we had to prop the fridge to stay closed to keep the refreshments at room temperature, and the service was TERRIBLE!! Our tour guide hurried us along and we didn’t get to spend time doing the things we paid to see. Advice: Skip Alexandria!! We spent $300 and wasted a day of travel. It was a long ride and unless you haven’t been to Greece or Italy – it’s not a big deal. Cairo to Luxor for the Cruise: The domestic flight times were changed on us when we arrived so instead of taking the 7/8am flights we had to wake up at 2am to catch the first one out… and then wait 3 hours for the rest of the travelers coming in on the 7/8am flight to Luxor!! Our rooms were not accurate again on the boat, which I cannot call a cruise. Once again, the MS Tulip was a small step up from the La Passage hotel in Giza. I do have to say that the service on the boat was great and they tried their best with entertainment, but… in trying to be polite… don’t expect much at all. Our tour guide throughout our excursions on the boat was fantastic and he really helped make the trip better for us. We had fun seeing the sights, but the rest was a true waste of hard earned money and really put a damper on our recent engagement. Advice: Take the bus tour to Abu Simbel when you get there. We paid $500 for a flight for the two of us when it would have been less than $200 and a much better time. The flight was delayed from our 9am time to after 10am because they wanted to wait for more people to fill the plane. There wasn’t any air conditioning on the planes or the buses the entire rides there and back. (I got heat exhaustion and it ruined the rest of my day.) Due to the delays we lost 1 ½ hours of our trip and had to run through Abu Simbel in an hour. Instead of putting us on a flight from Aswan to Abu Simbel (see the sights) and then on to Cairo, they sent us from Aswan to Abu Simbel back to Aswan (wait around 5 hours) to fly to Cairo. Of course this flight was delayed and we didn’t get back to Cairo on time and missed more things we had planned.
Summary: The itinerary you see listed on this site is not what you will get in Egypt and you will pay for it.
