The kingdom of Thailand lies in the heart of Southeast Asia, and its capital,
Bangkok (Krung Thep), means City of Angels. The kingdom is proud of its mix of
rich cultures and traditions and never ceases to be a source of fascination for
travelers.
Bangkok is a vibrant, exciting and sometimes exhausting city that never
seems to slow down or sleep. Although urban and hip, it has preserved many
landmarks and traditions deeply rooted in the country's past. Magnificent wats,
museums, palaces, and floating markets are indicative of Thailand's religious
and cultural history. Yet ultra modern architecture, lively clubs and trendy
bars, shops, restaurants and markets can be just as enticing.
Once you have exhausted the wonders of Bangkok - you may wish to explore
the scenic beauty of other regions of the country. There is a kaleidoscope of
unspoiled beaches, majestic mountains, pristine forests, caves, spectacular
waterfalls and secluded islands. This geography presents a number of
opportunities for leisurely to adventuresome activities - from cave exploration,
rock climbing, whitewater rafting, deep sea fishing, kayaking, canoeing,
sailing, scuba diving, snorkeling and even first class golf courses. For a more
leisurely pace there is sun worshipping and health spas.
Thailand has more than 50 national parks and wildlife sanctuaries that
are home to elephants, tigers, bears, and birds, countless species of flora, and
amazing coral reefs in natural surroundings. Reserves are accessible and make
good day trips or overnight stays.
Thailand is often called the "land of smiles" and perhaps that is because
Thais are keenly aware that Thailand truly is an amazing place. With hospitable
and friendly people, an exotic culture, a tropical climate and all manner of
geographic features and natural attractions, there is much to recommend Thailand
as a travel destination.
