Explore the Pachacamac Ruins, considered by many to be the most important archaeological site near Lima. Rising to prominence approximately A.D. 700 this pre-Incan temple was later used for adoration of the sun God. The tour starts at your hotel and drives south of Lima on the Pan-American Hi-way you will get an introduction to the Atacama Desert, the driest desert in the world, which lies in the rain-shadow of the mighty Andes. The desert here is punctuated with green oasis where rivers from the Andes flow into the Pacific Ocean. These green valleys amidst the desolate Atacama were cradles of civilization in South America and we’ll start by looking at the remains of one civilization at Pachacamac in the fertile Lurin Valley.
