Description Kamakura Walking Tour
9:00am - Depart Hamamatsucho Bus terminal to arrive Hase station begin walking here to visit Kase Kannon Temple which houses a Kannon, Japans largest wooden sculpture, standing about 9.18M in height and having 11 faces. The faces, each wearing different expression, represent the bodhisattva's different aspects: three each face forward, right and left, one is at the rear of the head, and one above the crown. They symbolize Kannon's hearing prayers and saving all. It holds a staff with metal rings in the right hand and a vase with a lotus flower in the left hand, representing Hasedera style along with the Bodhisattva Jizo with those of Kannon.
Continue your walk to see the Great Buddha. Designated as a National Treasure and Japan's largest Buddhist image after Todaiji's one in Nara. The present Great Buddha is the second at the site. The original image, carved from wood in 1243, was destroyed by a storm five years later. The presernt one was cast in bronze in 1252. This was a remarkable work for this images of huge dimensions with a weight of 125 metoric tons. The strucure housing the image was swept away by a tidal wave in 1498 ever since then, the image has been exposed to the weather.

Continue your walk to Hase station to travel by rail to Kamakura station. Walk to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. This shinto shrine is dedicated to Emperor Oji and popularly believed as the guardian of warriors. It was built originally at the present site by Shogun Minamoto Yoritomo in 1191. The presernt building dates back to 1828. In the precincts, there are historical things including Gigantic Ginko Tree, believed to be more than 1,000years old, and the spot where Yoritomo's nephew was assasinated, Stage for the Sacred Dance and Main Building.
Walk to the Komachi Shopping street which extends from Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine to Kamakura station. You can ejoy strolling through two routes including Komachi-Dori and Kalamiya-Dori running parallel. The former is a bustling shop-lined street, including souvenior shops, restaruants, curio stores where you can ejoy shopping or tasting Japanes sweets. The latter is the historical approach including Dan-Kazura built by Yoritomo in 1182 a offering for a safe delivery for the pregnant Massako, his wife.
17:00 - 18:00: Arrive back at Tokyo station. The tour guide will give you instructions to get back to your hotel.
