Description Nikko & Kegon Waterfall
Pick up from major Tokyo Hotels and transfer to Hamamatsucho Bus terminal.
9:00am - Depart Hamamatsucho Bus terminal to visit the Nikko Tshogu Shrine. The Nikko Tshogu is dedicated to leyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate, completed by lemitsu, the third Tokugawa shogun, in 1636.
A panel above the stable for the sacred horse bears the carving of three monkies referred to as "See no Evil, Speak no Evil, Hear no Evil." as one each is covering his eyes, mouth and ears. The Japanese have a saying: Don't say Kekko (wonderful) without seeing Nikko. This saying derives from the location of Toshogu shrine. Nikko
Stop for a Japanese lunch at a local restaurant
14:00 - After lunch continue sightseeing via Irohazaka to Lake Chuzenji which was formed by a natural dam of lava from the crater of Mt. Nantai. The shape of the lake is oval and surrounded by thickly wooded hills. It is known for an extra-ordinary depth, the deepest pont measuring 161.5M The temperature on the lake-side seldom exceeds 25C in summer. So it is a popular summer resort, especially popular with foreign diplomats stationing in Tokyo. The lake abounds in fish such as reinbow trout and carp. Fishing, yachting and boating are favorite sports on the lake among men and women of all ages.
Continue to Kegon Waterfall one of the largest waterfalls in Japan measuring about 96.3M in height. It falls down a precipice consisting of quartz rock and lava. The precipice was formed by the eruptio of Mt. Nantai, thus creating Lake Chuzenji.
Generally, the waterfall runs full from June to September, and stops between December and April though there is a device to draw water to the fall through an underground pipe. The view of the frozen waterfall in winter is also magnificent.
19:00 - 20:00: Arrive back at Shinjuku or Ginza station. The tour guide will give you instructions to get back to your hotel.
