Description
Depart from your hotel in Hanga Roa towards the Rano Kao Volcano. Here there is a profound crater that contains a lake of fresh water covered with “totora” (a water plant similar to straw when dry but thicker). Visit Orongo, located on the top of the crater, the location each year of the Tangata Manu or “Bird Man” ceremony. In present time, these festivities take place during summer. There are more than 100 petroglyphs that represent the Make Make God, the Tangata Manu and the Manutara sea bird, amongst others. Next, you will visit Ana Kai Tangata, caverns where several cave paintings can be observed. Continue to Ahu Vinapu, famous for its architectural perfection that even now remains a mystery. Return to the hotel in Hanga Roa in the afternoon.
