Description You will be met at your hotel in Hanga Roa for your tour of the Moai route. These colossal sculptures carved of volcanic rock may be found all across Easter Island located at the various Ahus or ceremonial platforms. The first stop is to Ahu Vaihu, which is surrounded by enormous Moais that lay facing the ground. Then travel to Ahu Akahanga, the burial site of the first king of the Easter Island.
The tour continues by the Rano Raraku Volcano, located at the southern coast of the island. Poike is located at the foot of the volcano and is the most spectacular crater of the zone. This is where the ancient natives sculpted the giant statues from the volcano’s quarry. Next, you will journey to Ahu Tongariki, the biggest Moai platform of Easter Island. This ceremonial ground contains fifteen Moai with an average weight of 50 tons each. In May 1960, this area was destroyed by a tidal wave but has recently been restored mainly thanks to Japanese foundations.
Next, you will travel to Ahu Te Pito Kura which means “light navel”. Here you will see the enormous Moai Paro, the largest sculpture on the island (11 metres of length and 80 tons of weight). Continue to Anakena, one of the most beautiful beaches of the island. Return to your hotel in Hanga Roa upon conclusion of the tour.
