Rio....the name conjures up iconic images; the beautiful people on
Copacabana beach, the thrill of Carnival and the powerful statue of Christ the
Redeemer with arms outstretched over the energetic city. Travelers can learn all
about the traditions of Brazil's biggest festival at the Museum of Carnival.
From the glitz and vitality of the Carnival tradition, travelers can also
experience the calm of nature from within the city. Visit Tijuca Forest, what's
left of the rain forest that used to surround Rio. Avid gardeners may want to
peruse the Botanical Garden accompanied by the sounds of monkeys and birds.
Sports fans will appreciate a visit to Maracanã stadium, which although it's
undergoing renovations in preparation for the next World Cup, has kept the
Soccer Museum open for fans of the sport. A trip to Rio has something to satisfy
everyone.

| Destination Notes BRAZIL HOTEL CITY TAX:
Some Brazil hotels might charge you what is called a City Tax, which is a tax that was created by the Convention bureaus of each Brazilian city to help pay for their promotions. It can be anywhere from $2 per person per night to $10 per person per night and is paid locally upon check-out. It is not something official that people staying at the hotel has to pay - you can say you do not want to pay and the hotel will remove this charge from your bill. Most hotels will simply include this charge on the bill and if clients ask about it, they remove it.
If you see this charge on your bill as you are checking out please ask for the City Tax to be removed as once this is paid, it cannot be refunded.
